Yorkshire Terrier

My breed was developed in the late 19th century by the working men of the West Riding region of Yorkshire. My early ancestors were called Broken-haired Scotch Terriers, but later the name was changed to the Yorkshire Terrier.

I am a lively sort, with lots of energy and personality. I am a good alarm dog -- that is, I will let you know when somebody is coming, but Iím not quite big enough to stop them.

My long, silky coat requires regular attention to keep it looking its best, but I am so small that it doesnít take much time.

I make a fine apartment pet and I enjoy riding in the car.

When fully grown, I am about 9 inches tall (22.9 centimeters).
