Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
I am sometimes called a Korthals Griffon, after Eduard Karel Korthals of Amsterdam who outlined and advanced a selective breeding program in the 1860’s to perfect my breed.
I am strongly built and rather low-set, with an unkempt look that belies my intelligence. I am extremely versatile, even though ‘pointing’ is the only talent that my name implies. I am also quite capable of chasing and retrieving. Add vermin extermination and guarding to that list and I think I have a pretty good resume!
My coat is very rough in texture -- in fact, it is usually compared to boar bristles. Personally, I have never petted a boar, but if you have, maybe you will understand how my coat feels.
I like people a lot, but I don’t want to be closed up in a little apartment. I need the great outdoors! A family in the country would be nice.
When fully grown, I am between 22 and 24 inches tall (55.9 to 61 centimeters) and I weigh between 50 and 60 pounds (22.5 to 27 kilograms).
