Shiba Inu

I am sometimes called the Japanese ‘Small Size Dog’ because that is what my name means in Japan, where my breed was developed some 3000 years ago.

My physical appearance is very much like that of an Akita in miniature form. My ancestors were used mainly to hunt small game, such as birds, but they also assisted in the hunting of deer or bear.

I am independent and very active, but my small size is handy for city life.

My thick, straight coat comes in lots of nice colors, but most people seem to prefer red or black and tan, for some reason.

When fully grown, I am between 14 and 16 inches tall (35.6 to 40.6 centimeters) and I weigh between 20 and 30 pounds (9 to 13.5 kilograms).
