Saint Bernard

I am not your ordinary house pet! I need a big body like this, though, to hold my big heart.

My breed was named after a medieval Hospice in the Swiss Alps and we have become known around the world for our heroic rescues.

My coat is dense and smooth and it benefits from regular brushing. I am very intelligent and I can learn how to do almost anything. (Jumping through flaming hoops is not high on my priority list, though.)

I am extremely good with children, and because of my size, strangers don't seem to want to get too close to the kids if I am helping you watch them.

Staying outside in the hot summer for long periods of time is not good for me unless you provide some shade or some other way for me to stay cool.

In closing, I might mention that some of my relatives do tend to drool just a bit. Their humans let them wear a kerchief when they are inside and this seems to work just fine.

When fully grown, I am between 24 and 28 inches tall (61 to 71.1 centimeters) and I weigh between 110 and 210 pounds (49.5 to 94.5 kilograms).
