Otter Hound
My breed has been known in Britain since the early part of the 13th century. My ancestors hunted and killed otters at a time when they were considered pests.
The tables were turned in 1978 and otters were declared a protected species in Britain, which meant that Otter Hounds were no longer needed, and many of my relatives were destroyed. Thank goodness for some kind folks who started a club for our protection, or I wouldn’t be here today.
I am a big, strong, rather "hunky" type. I need lots of outdoor exercise and my long, dense coat should be groomed about once a week.
I am friendly, but sometimes I get into trouble because I am rather stubborn.
I need strong, firm, but fair discipline and training in order for everybody to get along and be happy.
When fully grown, I am between 23 and 27 inches tall (58.4 to 68.6 centimeters) and I weigh between 65 and 115 pounds (29.3 to 51.8 kilograms).
