Norwegian Elkhound
My name in Norwegian is ‘elghund’, which translates to ‘moosedog’. That may be a more accurate description of my breed, since there is really no hound in me, but being called a ‘moosedog’ somehow doesn’t have much appeal.
Most people aren’t really aware of my talents as a hunter, but I certainly am versatile in that arena. I am also a very good guard dog.
My coat is thick and comes in gray or black. My black cousins are a little smaller than I am and are considered quite rare.
I need a lot of exercise and love the outdoors, so I prefer to live in the country -- at the very least, I want a nice big yard.
When fully grown, I am between 18 and 20 inches tall (45.7 to 50.8 centimeters) and I weigh about 45 pounds (20.3 kilograms).
