Manchester Terrier

Some people call me the Black and Tan Terrier, which is very descriptive because of my quite striking mahogany and black coloration.

My early ancestors had a wonderful talent for ratting and were very well favored by the British working class, who entertained themselves by watching the Manchester Terrier scrounge through rat carnage.

Ear cropping was outlawed in England, and that sort of took its toll on our popularity there -- but in the United States, our ears are usually cropped.

I am a lively sort, as most terriers are -- and I'm pretty good natured and agreeable.

My short, sleek coat requires hardly anything other than a nice bath and rubdown. That, combined with my easily portable size, makes me a good choice for a pet.

When fully grown, I am between 15 and 16 inches tall (38.1 to 40.6 centimeters) and I weigh between 16 and 22 pounds (7.2 to 9.9 kilograms).
