 Labrador Retriever
Boats carrying salt cod from Newfoundland to Poole Harbor in 1800 also transported some of my early relatives to Great Britain.
These dogs were strong swimmers and were hired by fishermen to paddle ropes ashore. They lost their jobs when the fishermen could not afford to pay the high dog tax that was levied upon them, but they continued to make a name for themselves as field workers and water retrievers.
I am still a hard-working, dependable, devoted companion with more than my share of intelligence and common sense. I am a first-class retriever, guardian and family pet.
My coat is short and sleek, requiring nothing more than a bath and a good brushing and it comes in black, chocolate, and yellow.
When fully grown, I am between 21 and 25 inches tall (53.3 to 63.5 centimeters) and I weigh between 55 and 75 pounds (24.8 to 33.8 kilograms).
