Irish Water Spaniel

Persian manuscripts dating as far back as 4000 BC mention the presence of ‘water dogs’ in Ireland and other documents circa 17 AD specifically relate stories of ‘Irish Spaniels’.

If these are to be believed, then my heritage goes a long way back, indeed! Some folks say that Poodles were once called Water Spaniels, also.

I’m not certain of my history, but I certainly know what I am today. I am outgoing, responsible, and eager to please, especially when it comes to retrieving waterfowl. I am also a loyal and competent watch dog.

A large, fenced yard or country acreage is best for me. My curly, dark liver-colored coat is water repellent and does require grooming, but trimming and clipping are not a chore.

When fully grown, I am between 21 and 24 inches tall (53.3 to 61 centimeters) and I weigh between 45 and 65 pounds (20.3 to 29.3 kilograms).
